So a judge has decided that she’s will hear a case brought by the estate of the late, great Jack Kirby involving whether or not the rights to properties created by Kirby should revert back to his estate.
If they win, Marvel will have received a kick to the balls of EPIC proportions.
I don’t doubt that Marvel, if they lose will just have Disney cut some sort of deal with the Kirby estate in order to keep functioning as usual.
I just can’t imagine that Jack Kirby, back in the day, when creating the Fantastic Four, The Uncanny X-Men and the Hulk, would have been handed a work for hire contract and would have signed it while somehow Stan Lee would have avoided all of that drama and being set for life.
I want the Kirby Estate to win but I also think that if they do, Disney will have to pay and the costs are going to get passed on to consumers in the form of price increases.
